Accreditation/Certification

Dear Community Members,

In October of 2019 we announced to our staff, Selectboard and to our community that we would be pursuing Certification through the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission (MPAC). This is the first step to becoming Accredited. We would be joining four other adjoining towns who are either pursuing or have completed this process; Northampton, Amherst, South Hadley and UMass Police Departments.

As of this time, we are in the self-assessment phase of Certification. This is the initial phase where the agency ensures that our facilities, equipment, policies, procedures, rules, regulations, as well as documentation show compliance with the 159 standards of Certification. These standards address public safety, high liability, risk management, and officer safety related matters. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 Pandemic has significantly slowed this process.

While attaining certification will require the efforts of all staff, I have selected three staff members, in addition to myself, to navigate us through this process. Those staff members are;

Lieutenant Jesse Green - Accreditation Manager

Lieutenant Mitchell Kuc

Sergeant Romano

Admin. Asst. Lauren Trombley

Following Certification, we expect to pursue full Accreditation which would require us to comply with all 257 standards as proscribed by MPAC
