SCAM ALERT - Charitable Solicitation

Neither the Hadley Fire Department nor the Hadley Volunteer Firemans’ Association is soliciting donations by phone or mail at this time. No fundraising is currently happening at this time. If you are contacted by an organization or person claiming to benefit our local fire department, firefighters, or fire victims, please do not give them any of your personal information nor money. Please feel free to contact the Hadley Public Safety Dispatch or the Hadley Fire Department at 413-584-0874 to ask for confirmation and prior to agreeing to donate money. If any fundraising event occurs in the future, it will be advertised here, on the main Town website and our Facebook page.

Check Before You Burn

Open Burning Permits - January 15 thru May 1, 2024

Times: You can only burn between 10am – 4pm. All fires must be fully extinguished at 4pm – meaning no smoke, fire or flame.

Cost: $5 permit/day (need a permit for each day) - Please have exact change when paying. Check or Money Order made out to: Town of Hadley or Cash accepted.

How To:

  • You must have a valid 2024 permit to be able to burn.
  • Permits are good for 1-day only on day of purchase.
  • You can get your permit at the Hadley Public Safety Complex between 9:00am – 12pm ONLY.
  • After 12pm, NO permits will be handed out. No exceptions.
  • Burn pile must be attended by a responsible adult at all times!
  • Open burning in Massachusetts is regulated by the D.E.P. and the local Fire Department.
  • Mass DEP regulates if burning is allowed on any given day or time.
  • Fire Department can stop or disallow burning due to weather, no permit or permit violations at any time.

You are allowed to burn:

  • Brush, cane, driftwood and forestry debris (but not from commercial or industrial land clearing)
  • Agricultural materials including fruit tree and bush prunings, raspberry stalks, and infected bee hives for disease control.
  • Trees and brush from agricultural land clearing 
  • Fungus-infected elm wood, if no other acceptable means of disposal is available 

You may not burn:

  • Leaves
  • Any chemically/treated wood
  • Brush, trees, cane or driftwood from commercial or industrial land clearing
  • Grass, hay, leaves, stumps or tires
  • Construction materials or demolition debris
  • Household trash

Mission Statement

We, the members of the Hadley Fire Department, are dedicated in our efforts to provide for the safety and welfare of the public through timely response to all emergencies as well as fire prevention practices including; inspections, fire and life safety education and all hazard preparedness and training. It shall also be our mission to continually train and maintain our equipment in order to be efficient and unwavering in our goal to preserve life, property and the environment and to ensure the safety of our members.
