Conservation Commission

Mission Statement

Conservation Commission administers the state Wetlands Protection Act and local Wetlands Bylaw, works to preserve open space, and helps preserve farmland through Agricultural Preservation Restrictions (APRs).

The Conservation Commission is responsible for reviewing and permitting any proposed work within a Wetland Buffer Zone, a Riverfront Area, or a Wetland Resource Area. The Conservation Commission should be consulted prior to initiating any work within these areas.

Applying for a Permit?

Please submit 1 physical copy, either by mail or in-person at least 1 week before your scheduled hearing/meeting. If the Conservation Commission office is closed, please place documents in the mailbox on the first floor during Town Hall's business hours.

Digital copies are encouraged in addition to physical documents.

Please include with your application visual depictions of the work to be done such as surveyed plans, engineer-stamped plans, or other to-scale drawings.

If you are filing a Notice of Intent, a Request for Determination of Applicability, or an Abbreviated Notice of Resource Area Delineation, you will need to publish a legal notice in the Daily Hampshire Gazette and it must circulate no later than 5 business days in advance of the meeting. Please refer to the link to a legal ad template on the left hand side of this page.
