Materials Banned from Disposal in the Trash (Must be Recycled)
  • Glass, metal, and plastic containers (bottles, cans, jars, jugs and tubs)
  • Paper, paperboard and cardboard
  • Leaves, grass and brush
  • Large appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, stoves, washers and dryers
  • Cathode ray tubes (older televisions and computer monitors)
  • Vehicle batteries
  • Construction materials including asphalt pavement, brick, concrete, metal, wood and clean gypsum wallboard
  • Mattresses, effective Nov. 1, 2022
  • Textiles, effective Nov. 1, 2022
  • Food material (from businesses and institutions that dispose of ½ ton or more per week), effective Nov. 1, 2022

Glass, metal, and plastic containers (bottles, cans, jars, jugs and tubs, paper, paperboard and cardboard) can go in your curbside recycling bin.

Textiles are any (even very worn, torn, missing buttons, and broken zippers) clean and dry clothing, footwear, bedding, towels, curtains, fabric and similar items except those contaminated with mold, bodily fluids, insects, oil or hazardous substances.

The best place to take unwanted textiles is the Bay State Textile Collection Box at the Hadley Transfer Station for residents with a sticker, without a sticker, the Salvation Army, 310 Russell Street, Hadley

For residents who have purchased a Hadley Transfer Station sticker, all of the items above (except food material from businesses and institutions) can be taken to the Transfer Station, 20 North Branch Road, Hadley. Open Monday 12-6 pm, Wednesday 1-6 pm and Saturday 7 am-4 pm Price List

Hadley residents who do not have a transfer station sticker, can take all of the items listed above (except food waste from businesses and institutions) to Valley Recycling, 234 Easthampton Road, Northampton (413) 587-4279

Consumer electronic waste can be taken to Staples, 125 Westgate Center Drive, Hadley and Zeep, 755 New Ludlow Road, South Hadley, MA

Unwanted Cell phones can be sold at the ecoATM kiosk at Walmart, 337 Russell Street, Hadley,donated at securethecall.org and traded in or donated at your wireless provider location. 

Household hazardous waste is accepted year round at NEDT, 190 East Main Street (Rt. 20), Westfield, MA

To recycle unused latex, water-based and acrylic paint take it to recolorpaints, 149B Winter Street, Hanover, MA
