Building Committee Call for Volunteers

The Trustees of the Goodwin Memorial Library are seeking Hadley residents to serve as members of the newly-formed Library Building Committee. This Committee will be comprised of the Library Director, two Trustees, a representative from the Friends of the Goodwin, a liaison from the Municipal Building Committee, a liaison from the Select Board, and 4-5 members of the community. Charged with completing the construction of the new library and managing the Construction Grant from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, the Library Building Committee will work with the architect and the Owners Project Manager (OPM) to bring this vision to life. They will also work closely with the Senior Center Building Committee as that project breaks ground this spring.

Applicants to serve on the Committee are asked for a three-year commitment beginning in Spring 2018. To begin, there will be monthly meetings in the evenings but the pace of work will accelerate as the project nears completion and may require some daytime work. Ideal applicants include those with experience with libraries, construction, interior design, education, finance, and community organization. The Committee is also seeking a youth member to advise on the new Teen Room and the needs of the youth population.

Those looking for a shorter time commitment can also volunteer to serve as part of larger subcommittees with specific tasks such as sustainability design, interior design, capital fundraising, landscaping, and event planning.

All interested applicants should complete the on-line form here by January 31, 2018. Applications will be reviewed by the Trustees and contacted directly. Questions about the process can be addressed to Patrick Borezo, Library Director at goodwinlibrary@hadleyma.org Information on the MBLC Grant process can be found on their website.
