Children

The Children’s Room at the Hadley Public Library offers a large, vibrant space for children and their caregivers.  We strive to promote community, a deep appreciation of books and excitement about visiting the library.   Through our weekly sing-a-long for young children, our drop in preschool playgroup and various special events each month we aim to encourage creative play, early literacy and making new friends.

Our collection of library materials is suited to kids from birth through approximately age eleven;  we honor the fact that all children read at their own pace and mature at different rates, so this age limit is flexible.  Tweens often select reading material from the Young Adult Room as well as the Children’s Room and we support this transition.  A staff member is always available to help anyone select some of their next  favorite books!

Storytime & Song is our weekly music group that meets every THURSDAY at 10:30 AM.   We sing familiar favorite songs in a circle for about 20 minutes, play with our 12’ parachute and then end with a preschool craft project and a snack.  This drop in program runs all year round and all are welcome!

Beginning October 3rd our popular Drop-In  Preschool Playgroup will take place on Tuesday mornings from 10AM to 12PM. This group is run by our Head of Youth Services Julia Lloyd and Mandy Gerry Coordinator of the Hadley/Northampton Early Childhood Center.    All preschoolers, toddlers and babies are warmly welcome!  While most of the kids enjoy our spacious playroom, people are welcome to use the Children’s Room as well, and may check out or return books.  This informal group runs all year round and is a warm and welcoming first introduction to the public library!

Lego Club for kids is the FIRST Saturday of each month!
