REMINDER 5/6/2020 GOVERNOR’S ORDER IN EFFECT The Baker-Polito Administration has ordered all residents over the age of two to use a face covering or mask in public places where maintaining proper social distancing measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 are not possible. This statewide order went into effect, yesterday, May 6th and supersedes previously issued guidance relative to mask use. This order applies to all workers and customers of businesses and other organizations that are currently open to the public and permitted to operate as COVID-19 Essential Businesses, such as grocery stores, pharmacies, and other retail stores. Residents are also required to wear a mask or face covering at all times when using any means of transportation service or public mass transit.

A face covering may include anything that covers the nose and mouth, including a mask, scarf, or bandana. Health care masks (such as surgical or N-95 masks) should not be used and should be preserved for health care workers and first responders. Cloth masks should not be worn by young children under the age of two, persons with difficulty breathing, or those who are unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance. TOWN CLERK- VOTER INFORMATION 4/21/2020 All Town residents, but especially seniors are being encouraged to vote from the safety of your home this election. Applications/requests for ballots should be sent to the Town Clerk, Town of Hadley, 100 Middle Street, Hadley, MA 01035. The Last day to register to vote for May 16, 2020 Annual Town Election is Wednesday, May 6, 2020. You can find additional info on how to register to vote at: (Click Link) https://www.hadleyma.org/town-clerk/pages/voting-elections For your information. The difference between early voting and absentee voting: Early Voting by Mail; applies to only one election, in this case it would be the annual Town election, scheduled for May 16, 2020. Ballots can only be requested by voter. All voters are eligible to participate in Early Voting. You must return signed original to the Town Clerks Office. (Click Link).
Absentee Voting: ballot applications can be used for up to one calendar year, and a ballot will be sent for each election: i.e. Annual Town Election, September primary (if you have not registered for a party, you need to choose a party), and the Presidential Election. You can exclude primaries if you wish. Ballots can also be requested by family member for you. *Covid 19 is an acceptable reason to request an absentee ballot. You must return signed original to the Town Clerks Office. (Click Link).

REMINDER FROM-4-28-2020- Governor Charlie Baker announced Tuesday that the state’s stay-at-home advisory will be extended through Monday, May 18, 2020. That advisory was originally set to expire on Monday, May 4 before the governor made his announcement at a press conference Tuesday afternoon. Give Blood: The COVID-19 virus has caused the cancellation of blood drives across the Commonwealth. There is an urgent need now. The Governor has deemed “Blood and plasma donors and the employees of the organizations that operate and manage related activities” as an essential service. Your support is needed to communicate to your residents that the need is urgent, and donating is a necessity to supply the hospitals with the blood our neighbors require. Donating blood is safe and people should not hesitate to give. In addition, there is a need for community blood drive sites in the eastern part of the state. Identifying donation sites is vital to meet the demand as we go forward. Your local knowledge, suggestions of sites, and potential partners are crucial to meeting the needs of our neighbors who need blood and blood products. REMINDER-Be advised that the Hadley Fire Department will again be coordinating with Hadley Council on Aging to provide a food pick-up and delivery program for our local Seniors in place of the Wednesday shopping trips. The program started April 1, 2020 for residents 60 years and older and will be every Wednesday until further notice. Fire Department members and volunteers will be shopping and delivering again this coming Wednesday May 6th. Reminder: Hadley Police, Fire and EMS are requesting that if any Hadley Residents or Businesses have N95 Masks, Gloves or Tyvek suits that they are willing to donate for use by your local first responders and EMS providers we would greatly appreciate your help. With the current shortage nation-wide we are trying to supplement our stock in the event we do not receive the stock of supplies in time. We are currently collecting the items at the public safety complex at 15 East Street. A box is set up in front of the fire station and will be available between 9am and 5pm for drop offs only in an effort to maintain social distancing. If you would like to provide contact info with your donation so that we can recognize you for your support that would be great but not required. Please help slow the spread of COVID-19 by spreading the word about Community Contact Tracing Collaborative. Let residents, colleagues, constituents know to Answer the Call, if they are contacted by someone from the Collaborative. If someone tests positive for COVID-19, the Collaborative’s Contact Tracers will reach out by phone to that person, and their close contacts, to slow the spread of the virus. Hopkins Academy Named a “2020 Best High School” U.S. News and World Report
By earning a ranking in the top 40% of high schools nationally, Hopkins Academy achieved status as a U.S. News Best High School. U.S. News 2020 Best High Schools numerically ranked nearly 18,000 schools nationwide this year. The Best High Schools rankings, available online only, are produced in conjunction with RTI International, a global research firm. U.S. News doesn’t collect data directly from high schools – all data comes directly from official third-party sources. U.S. News receives Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate data directly from the College Board and International Baccalaureate, respectively, for use in the rankings. The state assessment data and graduation rates are from each state, and other data comes from the U.S. Department of Education Common Core of Data.
Also published this week, Governor Baker issued a press release recognizing the Massachusetts high schools that received Innovation Pathways designations. Hopkins Academy has been awarded two Innovation Pathway designations - one in life and environmental sciences and another in business and finance. Students who participate in an Innovation Pathway will complete college preparatory coursework and a 100-hour internship in their chosen field. Students will have the opportunity to enroll in the Innovation Pathways program when we return to school in the fall. Congratulations Hopkins Academy faculty, staff, students, and administration. 4/13/2020-As of Wednesday, April 22nd we will begin a new meal service. This program is available to families that have children ages preschool to 21 years old, you do not have to be enrolled in Hadley Public Schools to participate. The Family First Coronavirus Act has made it possible for Hadley Schools to offer free meals to any family that needs it.
