REMINDER 5/18/2020-Governor’s Message for Reopening Massachusetts-T Today, the Baker-Polito Administration released Reopening Massachusetts, the Reopening Advisory Board’s report, which details a four-phased strategy to responsibly reopen businesses and activities while continuing to fight COVID-19. The Administration also released a new “Safer At Home” Advisory, which instructs residents to stay at home unless engaging with newly opened activities, as a way to continue limiting the spread of COVID-19. Starting today, based on current public health data and trends, Massachusetts will begin Phase 1 of a cautious reopening, and workplaces that are permitted to open are required to follow new safety protocols and guidance. REMINDER 5/6/2020 GOVERNOR’S ORDER IN EFFECT The Baker-Polito Administration has ordered all residents over the age of two to use a face covering or mask in public places where maintaining proper social distancing measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 are not possible. This statewide order went into effect, yesterday, May 6th and supersedes previously issued guidance relative to mask use. This order applies to all workers and customers of businesses and other organizations that are currently open to the public and permitted to operate as COVID-19 Essential Businesses, such as grocery stores, pharmacies, and other retail stores. Residents are also required to wear a mask or face covering at all times when using any means of transportation service or public mass transit.

A face covering may include anything that covers the nose and mouth, including a mask, scarf, or bandana. Health care masks (such as surgical or N-95 masks) should not be used and should be preserved for health care workers and first responders. Cloth masks should not be worn by young children under the age of two, persons with difficulty breathing, or those who are unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance. Give Blood: The COVID-19 virus has caused the cancellation of blood drives across the Commonwealth. There is an urgent need now. The Governor has deemed “Blood and plasma donors and the employees of the organizations that operate and manage related activities” as an essential service. Your support is needed to communicate to your residents that the need is urgent, and donating is a necessity to supply the hospitals with the blood our neighbors require. Donating blood is safe and people should not hesitate to give. In addition, there is a need for community blood drive sites in the eastern part of the state. Identifying donation sites is vital to meet the demand as we go forward. Your local knowledge, suggestions of sites, and potential partners are crucial to meeting the needs of our neighbors who need blood and blood products. REMINDER-Be advised that the Hadley Fire Department will again be coordinating with Hadley Council on Aging to provide a food pick-up and delivery program for our local Seniors in place of the Wednesday shopping trips. The program started April 1, 2020 for residents 60 years and older and will be every Wednesday until further notice. Fire Department members and volunteers will be shopping and delivering again this coming Wednesday May 20th. The Fire Prevention Office will be scheduling and conducting all inspections of properties for any permit under MGL Chapter 148 section 10A as well as final Certificate of Occupancy and inspections for sale or transfer of homes (26F and 26F1/2). 5/20/2020-NO New Information Today from Board of Health Answering the Phone to Help the MA COVID Team Trace & Slow the Spread of COVID-19 We need your help. Please help slow the spread of COVID-19 by spreading the word about Community Contact Tracing Collaborative. Let residents, colleagues, constituents know to Answer the Call, if they are contacted by someone from the Collaborative. If someone tests positive for COVID-19, the Collaborative’s Contact Tracers will reach out by phone to that person, and their close contacts, to slow the spread of the virus. HA Faculty Share Words of Wisdom with Seniors
Hopkins Academy faculty and staff shared individual, special messages with the Class of 2020. HA faculty, Sir Simmons, assembled the messages into a creative and moving video. The messages are a beautiful blend of wisdom, wit, inspiration, encouragement, and filled with love. We will miss you Class of 2020 and we wish you the best. Athletic Director, Erik Sudnick, has organized another important recognition for our senior athletes. Beginning on Tuesday, May 12 Hopkins Athletics began posting athletic biographies detailing the varsity sports that our Senior Athletes have played at Hopkins during their careers. The profiles include pictures of the athletes as well as quotes from the coaches and teammates that these fine young women and men have inspired over the last six years. The profiles are being released one senior at a time, alphabetically, beginning May 12th and ending on May 28th. Congratulations and thank you to all of our Hopkins Academy seniors for all they have done for Hopkins Academy! Seniors and their families can expect to receive information on the Senior Parade scheduled for May 29, 2020. Please note that these plans are subject to change in the event of revised guidance and/or regulations from state or local government or inclement weather. Next week we expect to receive guidance from DESE regarding options for graduation. On Saturday, May 16th at 8 pm EST, all major networks and several online platforms will host a special program, Graduate Together: America Honors the Class of 2020
