Give Blood: The COVID-19 virus has caused the cancellation of blood drives across the Commonwealth. There is an urgent need now. The Governor has deemed “Blood and plasma donors and the employees of the organizations that operate and manage related activities” as an essential service. Your support is needed to communicate to your residents that the need is urgent, and donating is a necessity to supply the hospitals with the blood our neighbors require. Donating blood is safe and people should not hesitate to give. In addition, there is a need for community blood drive sites in the eastern part of the state. Identifying donation sites is vital to meet the demand as we go forward. Your local knowledge, suggestions of sites, and potential partners are crucial to meeting the needs of our neighbors who need blood and blood products. To schedule a new blood drive contact Bill Forsyth at (617) 699-3808 or at email William.Forsyth@redcross.org. Those who are healthy, feeling well and eligible to give blood or platelets, are urged to make an appointment to donate as soon as possible by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1- 800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

Celebrating Our Graduates

Our celebrations for our seniors may not be typical but they will be special

As much as I want to lead with a peppy and upbeat message about how our new normal poses an exciting challenge that requires us to “think outside the box” and “flex our creative muscles” that is not how I feel. So let me lead with the truth - I am disappointed. I look forward to graduation all year. I look forward to wearing the same blue dress (yes, go check the photos for the past five years I wear the same graduation dress every year -it only comes out of my closet for graduation). I look forward to feeling the tears of pride well up as our seniors march to Pomp and Circumstance and shaking each senior’s hand as I give them their diplomas. I know others are disappointed also. I have been trying desperately to solve that disappointment by trying to come up with ways to impose the same well-loved and traditional celebrations into current conditions.

t doesn’t work. I cannot solve disappointment. I can share it with others. I can empathize with others; but, ultimately I have to accept that the world does not always conform to my expectations. Instead, I can think about the purpose and meaning of our traditions rather than the form they have typically taken. Our traditions represent opportunities to celebrate our seniors - their achievements, their contributions, and who they are. This has not changed. We will celebrate our seniors. Families can expect an update from Principal Beck this weekend regarding the “senior parade.” Seniors can expect to be surprised in numerous ways by peers and teachers. We have so much to celebrate about this senior class. They are wonderful, wise, generous, hard-working, and kind. They have had to demonstrate more resiliency, flexibility, and maturity than classes before them. It takes tremendous maturity to accept conditions beyond our control that frustrate and disappoint us. It takes wisdom to move beyond our frustration, find meaning in adversity, and focus on the many things for which we can be grateful despite difficult circumstances. The Class of 2020 is mature and wise. We will celebrate them and their accomplishments. Our celebrations will be different - drastically different this year - but no less meaningful.

The class of 2021 has decided to cancel, not postpone prom on 5/23.
