Please be advised that all water samples taken on Tuesday July 18 and Wednesday July 19 tested negative for total coliform. In light of these results and in consultation with the Department of Environmnetal Protection, the Town stopped chlorination and disconnected the chlorination pumps from the public water system on Thursday, July 20. It should take a few days to rid the system of chlorine.
The Town will continue to monitor water quality.

Please be advised that the Town of Hadley will need to chlorinate its public water supply on a temporary basis in order to remove non-harmful bacteria. Water users in the North Hadley area will probably notice a chlorine odor and taste to the water.
Although the Town has detected the presence of coliform bacteria in the water system, the tests confirmed that there is no fecal coliform in the water. There is no need to boil the water.
Immune-compromised individuals may want to drink bottled water, or consult with their doctor.
The Water Department is working on this issue throughout the weekend, and residents will observe Water Department personnel flushing hydrants along Route 47 and elsewhere.
Every effort is being taken to ensure the continued safety of the water system and water quality.
