Medicare Open Enrollment to switch plans effective Jan. 1, 2019, takes place between October 15 and Dec. 7, 2018.
Look in your mail for a large white envelope that will outline the benefits of your current coverage and any changes that will become effective 2019. Now is the time to make changes if the premium or copays costs have gotten too expensive or the pharmacy no longer covers your prescriptions.
The Western Massachusetts S.H.I.N.E. Program (Serving Health Information Needs of Elders) provides health insurance counseling by a network of volunteers trained and certified by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs in partnership with elder network agencies. The counseling they provide is confidential and free of charge.
S.H.I.N.E. Counselors provide information, counseling, and assistance to Medicare beneficiaries and elders with questions about Medicare, Medicare Advantage Plans, Insurance Claim forms, Medicare supplements (medigap), long term care insurance, Medicaid/Mass Health, Prescription Advantage, Medicare prescription drug plans, other health insurance options, and other prescription drug options.
