Equity Starts With You

Helping make Hadley a Diverse, Equitable & Inclusive Community

Issues of diversity, equity and inclusion are complex, human and messy. A few of us have been on the journey for a while, but many of us are new to discussing matters of race. One thing is for sure, we are all still learning. Join us as we think about and take action towards making a more equitable community.

What People Are Saying

“I found it to be extremely helpful to know that there are so many other people in my immediate community that are struggling with the same issues I'm struggling with. For example, how to intervene in a productive way when we see or experience something racist.”

— Will Pfadenhauer, Hadley, MA

“I used to think this topic is uncomfortable and I’m afraid to get things wrong so I stay silent. Now I think this topic is still hard but this community helps to try to make things better.”

— Amanda Kinchla, Hadley, MA

“I used to think I was not a racist. Now I see how ingrained the white dominance is in our society.”

— Jane Nevinsmith, Hadley, MA

“I have seen quite a few similarities in "Despite Best Intentions" and our public schools. I don't think anyone is trying to be racist, but from what I have noticed, white kids and kids of color seem to be following the same pattern as discussed in the book.”

— Hadley Resident

Learn, Discuss, Act

While the problem might feel large and overwhelming, we focus. We read books, watch videos, listen to podcasts and talk with community members who face the issues. We then join teams of people who want to explore specific issues & take action.
