Applying for a Permit

To Apply for a residential permit:
Please review the frequently asked question section within each Town Department. Within these sections some of your questions could be listed and answered. Do not hesitate to contact a Department to ask questions. The Town requests that you fill out a short "Project Review" by clicking here. Some of the permits and contacts that you will need are listed below.
  • Obtain a water permit through the DPW. Call 413-586-2390. Ask for Sharron Gifford or you may apply for one on the web click here
  • Obtain a sewer tie-in permit through the DPW.  Call 413-586-2390. Ask for Mike Pequignot or you may apply for one on the web click here.
  • If you do not have sewer obtain a Title 5 septic permit through the Board of Health. Please call 413-584-4562.
  • Verify your street number through the Assessor's office by calling Dan at 413-586-6320.
  • Obtain a Driveway permit through the DPW. Call 413-586-2390. Ask for Rosemary Greaney or you may apply for one on the web click here.
  • Obtain a Building Permit through Inspection Services. Call Tim at 413-586-7274 or you may print the form from the web click here.
  • Please call the Conservation Commission to review your property inorder to verify that you either have  or do not have any wetlands or issues that might trigger an application through the Conservation Commission.  Please click here to link to the Conservation Commission.

Applying for a Permit to Renovate a Residence:
Please review the frequently asked question section within each Town Department. Within these sections some of your questions could be listed and answered. Do not hesitate to contact a Department to ask questions. Some of the permits and contacts that you will need are listed below.
  • If you are already on sewer and you will be adding an addition please contact the DPW. Call 413-586-2390. Ask for Mike Pequignot or you may review the requirements on the web click here.
  • If you have a septic system and are adding a bedroom your septic system must be reviewed by the Board of Health. The Board of Health meets every Tuesday night in room 202 of the Town Hall. You may call them Tuesday night at 413-584-4562 or review the requirements on the web.
  • Obtain a Building Permit through Inspection Services. Call Tim at 413-586-7274 or you may apply for one on the web click here.
  • Please call the Conservation Commission to review your property inorder to verify that you either have  or do not have any wetlands or issues that might trigger an application through the Conservation Commission.  Please click here to link to the Conservation Commission.

  • Contact the Building Inspector at your earliest convenience to discuss your project with him.
  • Please review the Planning Board Site Plan review Process by clicking here.
  • Obtain a water permit through the DPW. Call 413-586-2390. Ask for Sharron or Bill Kelley or you may apply for one on the web click here.
  • Obtain a sewer tie-in permit through the DPW. . Call 413-586-2390. Ask for Mike Pequignot or you may apply for one on the web click here.

Applying for a Permit to renovate a Commercial Building:

Some of the permits and contacts that you will need are listed below:
  • Contact the Building Inspector at your earliest convenience to discuss your project with him.
  • Please review the Planning Board Site Plan review Process by clicking here.
  • All existing commercial water and sewer tie-ins must be reviewed by the DPW Before any other permits are applied for.  Call 413-586-2390. Ask for Sharron or Mike P. or you may review the DPW review requirements on the web click here.
  • If your project is a restaurant then a grease separator will be required and should be reviewed by both the Plumbing Inspector and the DPW.
  • Prior to issuing any Fire Department or Building Department permit please make sure that your street number is on the front of your building and on your or ground sign.
  • All alterations to an exterior building, a change of business, changes to the site including landscaping and parking will require review by the Planning Board. Please click here to obtain information regarding this process.
  • Obtain a Building Permit through Inspection Services. Call Tim at 413-586-7274 or you may apply for one on the web click here. All renovation work will also require review by the Fire Department for both sprinkler and fire alarm requirements.
